4 Steps To Stitch The Perfect Fitted Crib Sheet For Your Toddler's Bed

Making something personal for your baby is going to be one of the most joyful experiences you can ever have. Having said that, stitching up your own crib sheet for your toddler's bed is so easy to do.

Making a fitted sheet for your baby's crib will not cost you much and you will probably end up spending less when compared to the ones you buy online.

This blog aims at making the process so simplified for you by covering every possible detail involved in stitching up the perfect crib sheet.

Step #1: Gather The Following Materials

Gather The Following Materials

Unlike what you think, most materials that you require would already be available in your home. If you are ready to invest a few extra bucks for a really good crib sheet design, you can go ahead and purchase fancy fabrics.
You need the following:
  • Fabric - 2 yards (roughly 1.8 to 2 metres)
  • ¼ inch skinny elastic (80 inches)
  • A sewing machine
  • Thread (Preferably in the same colour scheme of the fabric)

The overall cost of this pet project of yours varies based on the quality of the fabric that you opt for. You also don’t have to stick with a plain white design but instead experiment with various colours and patterns if you can afford it.

Step #2: Follow The Following Dimensions While You Cut the fabric

Follow The Following Dimensions While You Cut the fabric

  1. You first need to cut down a rectangle from your fabric that’s roughly about 45 x 67 inches.

  2. Proceed and fold your rectangle into fourths. In other words, fold the cloth into half two times.

  3. Cut a small 8x8 square from one of the corners so when you open your cloth, it would resemble something like an extended cross.

  4. If you don’t want to fold your cloth into fourths, you can go ahead and cut an 8x8 square from all four corners.

Step #3: Stitch the casing

Stitch the casing

The corners from which you cut down the square should now resemble a right angle. Take the two sides of the right angle and stitch them together.

Do the same on all four sides which makes your cloth look like a really huge pocket of sorts.

Allocate a small portion of cloth from the edges and fold them. Now start making a small casing by stitching around it for the elastic to go through.

Step #4: Insert the elastic into the casing and you’re done!

Insert the elastic into the casing and you’re done!

On a little side note, do not stitch the entire casing at once. This will make it hard for you to get the elastic through it.

Instead of having to endure this painstaking process, learn another effective way. Usually, people would attach a needle at one corner of the elastic and guide it through the casing.

If you have your own sewing machine on hand, you can stitch the casing little by little. First, stitch the edges for a few centimetres and wait till you get the elastic through it.

Repeat the steps for a few times until you complete stitching all around. Overlap the two ends of the elastic and stitch them firmly. The final step of the process is to seal the casing to conceal the elastic.

Conclusion

Quilting cotton fabric is usually an excellent choice when it comes to making your own toddler's crib sheet. They are also available in a wide range of colours and patterns.

You might have to make slight adjustments to the fabric's measurements depending on the size of your kid's mattresses.

Once you're done with the stitching, you're all set to personalize your nursery with your self-made fitted crib sheet.
